Both AEW and NXT had stacked shows last night so should be interesting to see how NXT answered the call.
We’re opening with Dexter walking up to a control room style podium as the CWC is all black. He is apparently controlling the lights and everything tonight as well as hosting.
He flips on switch and we cut to obviously the live shot with Dexter now in a suit with a crowd in the arena and all the lights going.
DAMIAN PRIEST VS. KARRION KROSS W/ SCARLETT
Really love how somber the announcers always are after the Kross and Scarlett entrance. Really helps put it over.
A punch or two from Priest on Kross looked like they legit landed.
Smart from Priest to actually just roll out of the pin when the ref said his shoulder was up instead of putting it back down so Kross can still have the planned pin attempt.
Not the prettiest one but sweet looking nonetheless when Priest did the diving cannonball to Kross.
Still looking like Hager and Wardlow had the best “Hoss Fight” on Wednesday night. This was a good match but a lot of issues in it compared to the AEW Battle.
Priest looked like he was broken in half after that late powerbomb from Karrion Kross.
Love that heels like Kross are finding ways to use the Steel Pillars. It’s not cheating when it is part of the natural environment, right?
Killer Forearms to the back of Priest’s head from Kross and he gets the pinfall victory.
Roddy and Cole are being interviewed after finding they will face Breezango next week in an opening round match for the Dusty Rhodes Classic.
Great job are putting over Breezango while putting themselves over more.
Great to see Grizzled Young Veteran at ringside before the next match to help give them more screen time before the Dusty Classic.
GRAN METALIK W/ LINCE DORADO VS. SANTOS ESCOBAR W/ JOAQUIN WILDE & RAUL MEDNOZA – NXT INTERIM CRUISERWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH
Wow. Shocking to hear history outside of WWE being acknowledged let alone any type of history being mentioned. Didn’t know Metalik and Santos had been teammates before.
Beautiful counter from Metalik with him Spring boarding over Escobar, who was coming through the ropes, and landing on him on the outside.
Anyone else see Metalik’s gear and wonder when he was going to yell that it was Morphin Time?
Good job by both Metalik and Escobar for recovering from the almost botch of Metalik trying the tightrope into the Huricanrana.
Really good match with the botches considered. Santos Escobar hits the Phantom Driver to get the clean pinfall victory after an even match.
Video promo showing Xia Li warm up to promote her redebut next.
Mercedes Martinez doing a video promo about her beatdown of Io Shirai and says the only title she cares about is the Women’s Title.
XIA LI W/ BOA VS. KATRINA CORTEZ
Really freaky entrance with the creepy Asian lady sitting in a chair then Xia Li and Boa are seen beside her wearing new gear. Boa looking like a hitman and Xia looking like an assassin.
Before getting in the ring Xia Li does a routine with knives.
Xia Li definitely feels like she has completely changed. This is up there with a great gimmick change with Cody Deaner’s in Impact.
Xia Li just destroys Katrina Cortez and gets the EASY pinfall victory.
We are now hearing from William Regal that Thatcher is unable to compete due to an injury so there will be no Fight Pit match tonight.
Bronson Reed is now being interviewed at ringside about his plans for the year before putting his money on Rhea Ripley in the next match.
RHEA RIPLEY VS. RAQUEL GONZALEZ – LAST WOMAN STANDING MATCH
Rhea Ripley wasting no time and hits a dropkick right at the bell sending Raquel into the corner.
Great spot with Raquel swatting Rhea out of the air with a chair when Rhea was trying to hit a dropkick.
Loved that the fence was rigged so Raquel could just rip the fence off instead of breaking the handcuffs.
Great planning to have Rhea have the bell hammer in her hand already so they could make the bell sound when Raquel countered and hit Rhea’s head against the bell.
Rhea’s back looked like it was broke when she got powerbombed on to the broadcast table.
Back from the picture in picture break with Raquel booting Rhea down the stairs off the stage.
Always great when you own the building so you can rig doors.
Are we going to get a crotch chop in every episode of NXT from now on? Rhea hits it just before sentoning Raquel through the table.
Dakota shows up as Rhea is getting up and attacks her with a kendo stick but Rhea destroys her for getting involved and stuffs her in a locker.
Nice looking spot with Rhea getting her submission on Raquel while adding the chair but again, submissions don’t make a lot of sense in Last Person Standing matches.
Raquel Gonzalez looked like she got a Shane McMahon landing after being sent into the video X screen on the stage.
Great Chokeslam spot from Raquel Gonzalez putting both through the stage to give her the win.
We see The Way coming to the ring with a “police” escort on their way to the arena for a special celebration.
We see them arrive at the arena in their car after the commercial break. Apparently Austin Theory was able to pass his Driver’s Exam.
Johnny says the only things he is cursed with now is being a winner, a great dancer and others.
Candice has a plaque for Johnny to commemorate his breaking the curse before Austin and Indi reveal an artwork piece showing the four of them as superheros.
Johnny says that he and Austin THeory are entering the Dusty Rhodes Classic before Shotzi comes out in her stupid tank and does her ridiculous mic.
Poor Little Austin that gets hit hard with the bean bag shot from the tank.
Kushida comes down and helps Shotzi so that we don’t get a guy and a girl. Dexter then rings the bell announcing we have a mixed tag match now.
CANDICE LERAE & JOHNNY GARGANO W/ INDI HARTWELL & AUSTIN THEORY VS. KUSHIDA & SHOTZI BLACKHEART – MIXED TAG TEAM MATCH
Back from commercial, we have Dexter Lumis on commentary and he is saying absolutely nothing. 2 out of 3 of the current men at the broadcast table are former NWA Commentators.
How are the Gargano’s not getting pissed at the fact that the future Mrs. Leon Ruff is the referee for this match.
Shotzi went through those ropes with way too much speed and looked like she face planted on the matt after flying almost clear over Candice.
Theory and Hartwell get involved by Kushida ends up sending Gargano head first into Little Austin before rolling up Johnny for the pinfall victory.
Promo to let us know that we are getting the next NXT Takeover on Sunday February 14th. Have a strong feeling that it will be St. Valentine’s Day Massacre.
Regal is now being interviewed about the Dusty Rhodes Classic saying that they will be have a Women’s version as well.
KYLE O’REILLY VS. FINN BALOR – NXT CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH
Kyle O’Reilly is really focusing his attacks towards the head and specifically the jaw of Finn.
Balor performs a curb stomp on Kyle after O’Reilly bit the ropes to break a hold. The doctor trying to look at Kyle but he says he’s fine.
Kyle is holding is jaw now so it is great that they are using the Receipt aspect of wrestling for the match story.
Great job at having Finn really focus his moves all to the Jaw of O’Reilly throughout the match since it was “injured.”
They really are trying to keep this match as even as possible with hurting hurting Finn.
Seems like once again Finn has been busted open somewhere on his head with a blood stream coming down the side from around the eye.
Great job from Finn to adapt the submission to put pressure on Kyle’s jaw to force the submission and retain the championship.
Post match, Finn celebrates before offering a nod of respect to Kyle O’Reilly.
