AEW DYNAMITE NEW YEAR’S SMASH NIGHT TWO SOUNDOFF – JANUARY 13, 2021

This week's AEW Dynamite Soundoff. is New Year's Smash Night Two

It’s Wednesday, you know what that means! Looking forward to seeing if they taped any surprise Impact appearances for this week’s show. Suspect Good Brothers to be on the show tonight.

EDDIE KINGSTON W/ THE BUTCHER, THE BLADE & THE BUNNY VS. PAC W/ REY FENIX & PENTA EL ZERO M
Great recap of the history leading to the showdown between Pac and Eddie Kingston.
Pac wasting exactly zero time by coming straight to the ring and drop kicking Eddie Kingston in the ring to start the match.
Bunny getting her hands, or better yet her nails, in to the face without Bryce seeing but he sees Rey confronting her and Blade about it. Eddie able to do more damage while Bryce is busy with Fenix.
Not sure how I feel about the spot with Eddie Kingston looking right at the hard camera with just the one eye open after the kick from Pac. A little TOO cartoonish.
Kingston is favouring his left shoulder/neck which could be legit but not sure.
Black Arrow from Pac and he gets the pinfall victory.
Post match, Pac puts on the brutaliser but lets go when Butcher and Blade hit the ring. They leave the ring the minute Lance Archer and Jake Roberts hits the ring.
Archer then gets in the face of Pac letting him know that he needs to get in line if he doesn’t want to get hurt.

CHUCK TAYLOR W/ ORANGE CASSIDY VS. MIRO W/ KIP SABIAN & PENELOPE FORD
Chuck deciding to going after Miro from behind while Miro does his posing for the hard camera. Chuck finds time to smile at the camera during the attack on Miro to start this off. He appears to be enjoying this.
Kip Sabian attacks Orange Cassidy on the outside but gets a face full of Chuck’s boot for it. Miro does get the advantage from this slight distraction.
Thrust Kick from Miro before saying it is over and locks on his submission to get Chuck to submit. Chuck will now be Miro’s “young boy” for the next month.
Post match, the heels hold Chuck on the stage while staring down Orange Cassidy in the ring.

Matt Hardy and Private Party are being interviewed about their new official contract. Private Party call Hardy a money grubbing Carny over the third party cut Hardy gets. Hardy is enraged and makes Private Party walk off with him.

Inner Circle coming out to the ring to let us know their New Year’s Resolutions but not before we get a commercial break.
Jericho letting us know that 2021 is going to be a huge year for the Inner Circle. Jake Hager says “Championships! Yeah!” then MJF says strengthening his bonds with the Inner Circle and getting rid of fat people.
Ortiz wants to do some Spanish food stuff that his grandmother made. Jericho says this year he and MJF are going to be tag team champions. Sammy seems surprised and Santana says that Jericho picked him and Ortiz to be THE tag team in the Inner Circle.
Sammy says Jericho is a Tag Team Slut and points out who he has teamed with. This sets up a three way match next week to determine the official tag team of the Inner Circle.
Jericho makes a joke about Sammy Hager as a team name for Sammy and Jake Hager but it drops on deaf ears.
Two new shirts from this segment alone will be coming out I am sure. “Tag Team Slut” and “Championships! Yeah!”

Dark Order is now being interviewed by Marvez and they pull in Hangman who was off camera. Dark Order interviews him about when he will decide to join and Hangman says he will tell them after the match next week. Great to see BTE stuff bleeding over.

Tazz and Darby’s History is being highlighted in a video package before the TNT Championship match. Also showing how Ricky Starks and Hobbs came to join Tazz.

Kenny and The Bucks are being interviewed with Don Callis before they come out for their six man. They agree to have separate entrances. Really like the subtle touches that Omega and Bucks aren’t actually on the same page.

KENNY OMEGA & THE GOOD BROTHERS (DOC GALLOWS & KARL ANDERSON) W/ DON CALLIS VS. VARSITY BLONDES & DANNY LIMELIGHT – SIX-MAN TAG TEAM MATCH
Kenny is coming out first so Don Callis can grab the mic after Kenny’s entrance to introduce they Young Bucks but instead the introduce Good Brothers instead as his tag team partners. Not really subtle anymore as Bucks are seen upset with TK backstage.
Tony Schiavone makes a “good” joke about the name of Impact’s upcoming PPV being called “We Are Dead” instead of “Hard to Kill.”
Back from Commercial with a Triple Splash seen having happened during the break. Not something that really needed a replay.
Love that the Varsity Blondes finisher is a variation of the Hart Attack from the Hart Foundation.
Danny Limelight definitely screams dude who is taking the pin. Magic Killer on him and Karl Anderson gets the pinfall victory.
Post match, the music of Jon Moxley hits and he comes out from the cool door. He seems unphased by the men in the ring.
Penta and Fenix come out before pretty much the whole AEW Dark locker room comes out before the Bucks come out as well. Bucks don’t do anything but get superkicked from behind by Lucha Bros.

THE WAITING ROOM WITH GUEST CODY RHODES
Britt starts off by making the audience think there is a prize under their chairs but PSYCH nothing is there.
Rebel has an annoyingly good over reacting laugh. Want to take my head phones off when she does it.
Britt Baker makes a joke about his kid will have an AEW figure before Britt gets one.
Britt announces she has a surprise guest before Cody can even speak. The guest is Jade, the girl who can’t cut a promo, hold a mic properly and likely can’t wrestle but we’ll see.
Red Velvet shows up when Jade pie faces Cody before a slap fest and almost old school cat fight breaks out.
Post brawl, we see footage on the big screen of Thunder Rosa getting attacked from a few weeks ago. Rosa then shows up on the screen obviously from home since she can’t be cleared yet to appear.
The Match has now been moved to Beach Break on February 3rd. Britt is not happy saying it is not happening before a graphic shows up on the screen.

JURASSIC EXPRESS (MARKO STUNT & JUNGLE BOY) W/ LUCHASAURUS VS. FTR (CASH WHEELER & DAX HARWOOD) W/ TULLY BLANCHARD
Luchasaurus comes out with Jungle Boy and Marko but goes to the back after the entrance.
FTR just beating everything out of Marko Stunt that they can. If you are not a fan of Marko, this is likely either going to be the best thing you’ve seen or least.
Thanks to the hot tag to Jungle Boy, Jurassic Express have the advantage as we go to a commercial break.
Back with FTR back in control after apparently dropping Marko on the top rope during the break.
Really good booking to have the majority of the pin attempts by Jurassic Express to be done by Jungle Boy.
Unseen Low Blow from Marko Stunt before a sliced bread leading to a two count only on Dax who sends Marko to the outside from kicking out.
Tully sends Marko into the ring post behind Turner’s back and Jungle Boy gets sent into the barricade by Wheeler.
Big Rig from FTR on Marko Stunt in the ring and they get the pinfall victory. Great way to get them over as bully heels.

TAY CONTI W/ ANNA JAY VS. SERENA DEEB – NWA WOMEN’S WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH
Dark Order accompany Anna Jay and Tay Conti but leave to the back leaving just Anna in the corner of Tay Conti.
Did Tay Conti even get a title shot of any kind in NXT? Even on a house show?
Got to love how JR had to dance around where and how Serena Deeb helped train Tay Conti in NXT.
Really good back and forth between Conti and Serena so far. Both frustrated when the other gets in offense.
Love the huge kick from Tay Conti to Serena. Not sure if it was on purpose but Tay losing her balance kind of sold the power of the kick more.
Can’t say enough good things about the facial expressions of Tay Conti. Something a lot of wrestlers can’t just do right even after years.
Interesting Gory Special from Serena Deeb using the top turnbuckle with the four count.
Detox from Serena Deeb gets the pinfall victory in a good match that helped show Tay Conti is coming a long way.
Post match, Tay Conti reaches out and Anna Jay grabs her hand to let her know it is not over. Could be a way to further Tay into accepting the ways of Anna Jay.

BRIAN CAGE W/ TAZZ, HOOK & RICKY STARKS VS. DARBY ALLIN – TNT CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH
Tazz is telling us on commentary that they were only allowed two people at ringside with Brian Cage to explain the abscence of Powerhouse Hobbs.
Darby goes straight after the legs of Cage before sending him to the outside and smashing him against the Barricade repeatedly before Cage catches Darby trying a Tope Suicida.
Cool spot with Brian Cage throwing Darby from the ring over the ropes and through the time keeper table. Darby is busted open from it.
Darby Allin still defiant after being just tossed on to the ramp by Brian Cage and kicks out at one after Cage attempts a pinfall.
Cage getting upset that he can’t put away Darby and is setting up the steel stairs at ringside. Darby fights Cage off sending Cage on to the steps and hitting a coffin drop on to Cage.
Darby ties up the legs of Brian Cage before mounting the back of Cage but cage is able to get out but gets hit with a Code Red from Darby before he can do anything.
Hook is distracting the ref so Ricky can get involved but lights go out and Sting appears to take out Ricky.
Crucifix Bomb from Darby Allin to Cage off the top rope to get the pinfall victory and retain the TNT Championship.
Post match, Sting gets in the ring to stand over Darby Allin as Powerhouse Hobbs comes out to join the rest of Team Taz on the stage to end the show with a stare down.
