We are getting all four of the quarter final matches of the Japan side tonight.
Ring announcing is being done in Japanese with Excalibur giving the cliff notes version.
MEI SURUGA VS. YUKA SAKAZAKI – AEW WOMEN’S WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP ELIMINATOR TOURNAMENT FIRST ROUND MATCH
Yuka’s music really sounds like you had a couple energy drinks and walked into a Japanese arcade. I expect her to get the win her seeing as she has a history in AEW already.
The Women’s gear in Japan really do put every women in the USA to shame.
I wonder how American fans will react to se the Japan ref in full mask and face shield.
Huge emphasis on showmanship in Japanese women’s wrestling, at least with these two so far. Mei’s pose during the pin of Yuka after the Oklahoma roll a prime example.
Great spot with Yuka turning the STF into a single armed submission stopping Mei from grabbing the bottom rope.
Not sure if Yuka was meant to sell that “leg sweep” from Mei as much as she actually did.
What a spot with Mei having the Bridge locked on but let go and matrix’d back up and hooking the leg to matrix back down and add a double arm hook before turning it into a Muta Lock variation.
Mei Suruga really likes her bridging moves. She has pulled out a few different versions.
Yuka goes for Magic Girl 450 Splash and gets the pinfall to advance in the tournament.
VENY VS. EMI SAKURA – AEW WOMEN’S WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP ELIMINATOR TOURNAMENT FIRST ROUND MATCH
Will be interesting to see how Veny is presented in Japanese matches compared to Nyla Rose.
Wow, interesting to see Emi Sakura in a different outfit other than her Freddy Mercury tribute outfit. Did she win a Queen of the Ring contest?
Emi Sakura seems to have three girls with her at ringside cheering her on.
Veny can move hitting lots of great moves off the ropes. Was able to get all the way to the top in one leap.
Some of the facial expressions that Emi Sakura does are absolutely hilarious.
Angels Wings from Sakura but both are so spent there is no attempt for a pin at all. Really good even match so far.
Great series of kicks by Veny before hitting the diving drop kick on Emi but only a two count.
So many near falls in this one and all of them seem they kick out long after there should have been a three count.
Tiger Driver from Emi Sakura and she is finally able to get the pinfall victory to advance.
Post match, Emi Sakura offers a handshake to Veny but then Veny slapped Emi before leaving the ring.
MAKI ITOH VS. RYO MIZUNAMI – AEW WOMEN’S WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP ELIMINATOR TOURNAMENT FIRST ROUND MATCH
Maki Itoh is apparently going to grace us with a musical performance before this one gets started as we are told she was an Idol Star before the match.
As the ref is checking Ryo for foreign objects she smacks his back and it looked it didn’t feel great.
Freaking hilarious spot with Maki telling Ryo to hit her but then starts crying after getting decked but it was an act and attacks when Ryu gets close.
This is obviously the comedy relief match of the night with how they have it booked.
Ryu seems to be hyping up by playing air tug of war with herself in the middle of the ring.
Is Maki Itoh meant to be a little crazy or just a self absorbed pop star? They are interchangeable at times.
Not sure who the person at ringside is cheering for as didn’t see who she came out with.
Apparently Maki Itoh has an iron plate or something in her head that gives it extra strength.
Nice spot with Ryu and Maki using only their heads to do a test of strength which Maki Itoh won.
Nobody home for the flying headbutt from Maki Itoh and Ryu hits her with a spear but only gets a two count.
Maki Itoh ends up tapping out to a submission from Ryu for Ryu to advance.
RIN KADOKURA VS. AJA KONG – AEW WOMEN’S WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP ELIMINATOR TOURNAMENT FIRST ROUND MATCH
Rin Kadokura is headed to the ring with her Wave Tag Team Championship. Great way to give a company some extra attention.
Almost forgot how slow Aja Kong moves. I know how old she is but still, she makes Jazz look spritely.
Aja Kong keeps making it a point to show she has an open fist when going to strike Rin but then closes the fist right before contact then acting all innocent.
Same girl at ringside as in the last match but she is clearly cheering on Rin Kadokura in this one.
Diving elbow from Aja Kong and she gets the easy win to advance to the next round.
