AEW WOMEN’S WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP ELIMINATOR TOURNAMENT SOUNDOFF – FEBRUARY 22, 2021

Four more matches in the AEW Women's World Championship Eliminator Tournament as the Japan Finals are set as are the Semi Finals for the USA Bracket.

We are hearing Madi Wrenkowski is replacing Anna Jay who is unable to compete due to injury.

TAY CONTI VS. NYLA ROSE – AEW WOMEN’S WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP ELIMINATOR TOURNAMENT USA QUARTER FINAL MATCH
Taz has joined Excalibur on commentary this week. It is possible just for the American matches.
Nyla starting it off by pushing Tay down acting all cocky but Tay is getting in Nyla’s face not being intimidated.
NASTY looking Dragon Screw from Nyla to Conti. Not sure if it was meant to look that nasty but it did.
Doing a good job at making Tay look strong enough that you think she has a chance. She got a beautiful DDT on Nyla on but not able to get the pinfall with Nyla easily kicking out after two.
Nyla pulls off the Turnbuckle pad as Tay Conti tries to powerbomb Nyla. Aubrey ends up missing a roll up by Tay while trying to get the pad out of the ring.
Death Valley Driver by Nyla on Tay Conti on the stage but Tay, to the shock of everyone, kicked out right before a three.
Beast Bomb and it is over as Nyla Rose gets the pinfall victory after a better than expected match.

YUKA SAKAZAKI VS. EMI SAKURA – AEW WOMEN’S WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP ELIMINATOR TOURNAMENT JAPAN SEMI FINAL MATCH
Emi Sakura is coming out with her students dressed in the Freddy Mercury style while Emi Sakura is in her King Booker gimmick. They do a very pop idol dance number in the ring.
We do have Taz on commentary for these matches again. Will be interesting to hear Taz give his take since he is not as much a Joshi expert as Excalibur.
Yuka plays in to Emi Sakura’s gimmick and shows respect before the match with a handshake and bow.
Emi Sakura distracts the referee while her students attack Tuka at ringside. Emi eventually goes out and hits her with a spinning back breaker on the outside.
Funny spot with Emi and her students basically singing while Emi breaks down Yuka in the ring.
Emi is working over the back of Yuka as she has the tape all over her upper back.
Emi starts to Freddy Up by stomping the mat in the beat with her students singing We Will Love You to We Will Rock You.
Cool spot with Yuka pulling herself up to come face to face with Emi who was running in to the corner at her. Emi being the veteran was able to think on her feet and rake the eyes of Yuka.
Yuka in control taking some good hits to Emi but Sakura just laughs her way up and gives Yuka some back. Great build up moment.
Emi is not happy that Yuka was able to get her foot on the bottom rope to stop the pin.
With a crucifix during a back and forth Yuka gets the pinfall victory over Emi Sakura to advance to the Japan Final.
Post match, Hikaru Shida comes running in to save Yuka after Emi and her students were beating her down.

RYO MIZUNAMI VS. AJA KONG – AEW WOMEN’S WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP ELIMINATOR TOURNAMENT JAPAN SEMI FINAL MATCH
Great to hear Taz and Excalibur talk about the fan response to Maki Itoh during the entrance of Ryo who beat her in the previous round.
Ryo is too smart for Aja Kong to get an easy one over on has Aja tried to get one up without doing a clean break.
Great spot with Ryo apologizing to the referee for ignoring his count while striking Aja before striking her one more time.
Loved that Aja Kong just attacked Ryo after she turned around following her taunting/celebrating only for Ryo to return the favour seconds later.
Aja Kong is favouring her right leg now and is moving slower than before. Didn’t know that was possible but Aja proved otherwise.
Aja Kong has grabbed the trash can and brought it in the ring but the ref says no and she just hands it over like it is no big deal.
Mizunami blocks the back hand of Aja Kong but still sells it to help put over before psyching herself up.
Such a great hard hitting match with some humour thrown in.
Aja Kong is actually climbing the turnbuckles but Ryo stops her on the second before hitting her with a spear.
Diving Leg Drop from Ryo but Aja Kong kicks out with authority after the two count.
Spinning Back Fist from Aja Kong out of no where and both women have gone down. Ryo is able to kick out when Aja Kong is finally able to try and make a cover.
Aja Kong takes Ryo to the japan announce table with Shida and throws Shida the garbage can and throws Ryo against it but Ryo still gets back to the ring before Aja Kong and beats the ten count to advance.
This booking feels like a long time veteran refusing to get pinned by a younger talent.

MADI WRENKOWSKI VS. BRITT BAKER W/ REBA – AEW WOMEN’S WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP ELIMINATOR TOURNAMENT USA QUARTER FINAL MATCH
We are being told that Madi is one of Rosa’s students at the school her and Jazz run and this explains Britt Baker attacking Madi during the entrance before the match even starts.
Very basic match so far but why is this in the Main Event of this episode instead of putting it between the two Japanese matches?
Madi is getting some offense in including some pin attempts on Baker but it seems all Britt.
Madi kicks out after one two many pin attempts for Britt’s liking and she gets the glove and locks in the lock jaw to get the submission victory.
Post match, Britt Baker decides to send a message to Thunder Rosa by drawing on the face of Madi after a curbstomp and puts the Lock Jaw on. Ge I wonder if the final of the USA bracket will be Rosa vs. Baker?
